In 1997 our team discovered that a population of Concolor concolor lu (Black Gibbons), once thought extinct, had been living in this forest for many generations. Our canopy intrusion into this ecosystem is therefore an attempt to both raise awareness about the extreme endangered condition of this species of lesser apes, and to prove that Lao people have a lot to gain by taking care of wildlife.
Reintroducing Gibbons to the wild is problematic for humans, as a Gibbon will never come down from the canopy. Our tree-top infrastructures have showed great promise in Gibbon rehabilitation.
